Notes for Rear Admiral John Salwey Hallifax
Sounds like he got the Salwey name from his first cousin once removed who married two Salweys in succession... In Ludlow there are several MIs, in St Laurence’s church and a plaque on a house in Broad St, to various Salweys who had moved from Richard’s Castle to there.

MPL: Grannie Ferrand had another brother whom I could not fit on the line: Godfrey d.1920 unmarried.
Since her death we have sadly lost touch with the Hallifaxes. Any help in adding to this tree would be welcome, as (even more) would tales of their exploits.

In the 1901 census he was living with his family at Upton Cottage, Old Alresford, Hants, aged 55, born in Birr, Ireland and a retired Captain, RN.
In the 1901 census his household was:
(a) himself and wife,
(b) 3 children,
(c) 6 servants.
In addition I have found in the 1901 census the three elder sons, Ronald, Eustace and Oswald but nowhere in England can I find Muriel, who by then was 18 and might just have been abroad??? Nor have I found Guy, the eldest son.

In 1883 at the birth of his daughter Muriel he was a Commander RN of HMS Hector and living at 4 Clarence Parade Southsea, Hants. (TFPL, 2012: this is confirmed by the entrance in his his Naval Record.)
________________________
On his death certificate he was 58 and a rear-admiral (retired). His informant was his daughter Muriel Hallifax (my grandmother) who was present at the death and living with her parents.
________________________
In the 1861 census he was aged 15, a cadet in the RM, and with his mother and siblings at Portsea, Hants.
