Notes for Mary Ann Louisa Baynes
In the 1901 census she was living with her family at Dunboyne, Prestbury, Cheltenham, Glos, aged 69 and born in China and a British Subject.
On her death certificate she was a widow of Thomas de Courcy Hamilton late Major general of the 64th regiment. The informant was Florence Hamilton, her daughter, who was present at the death at Dunboyne, Prestbury.

Her birth date is known only from Francis R de C Hamilton.

In the overseas registers at the family record centre, London there are records for the births of Claude, Florence, Gilbert, John and Douglas W, all Hamiltons born in Corfu in the Ionian Islands. Curiously there is no mention of Charlotte Annie; perhaps there was no such facility when she, the eldest, was born. Nor do I know what happened to all those boys. Were they Mary and Thomas'? Or did they all die young?
______________________________
In the 1871 census she was living at 48 Devonshire St, Portland Place, Marylebone, London with three daus, four sons and two servants. Presumably Thomas was abroad with the army. She was 39, a Colonel's Wife, born in China and using the name of Louisa Hamilton, not Mary Ann Louisa.

I can’t find her in the 1911 census. Oct 2009: Found her as Louisa Hamilton, born in Macao, China aged 79, having had 7 children of whom four survived and three had died and living with her daughter Florence aged 50.
