Notes for Richard Benyon Berens
No baptism record has been found for him, yet.

In the 1841 census he is said not to be born in Kent where he was then living.  In addition the 1851 census does not make it clear at all who his parents were.  The only steer that we have is his marriage register which name a Richard Beauvoir as his father.  Richard Beauvoir might be the 35 year old Barrister in 1841 at Kevington House, but where was his mother?

In the 1851 census he was a boarder at school so we have lost his birth family.

In subsequent censuses he reported that he was born in the parish (?) of St George Hanover Square.

All sources agree that he was born in 1834.

So that is what he is, until something better turns up.

Cracked it to some extent: I searched for the marriage of Richard Beauvoir Berens and indeed found this on the ninth of January of 1833 at St James, Westminster and to Catherine Dowdeswell.  This Dowdeswell name becomes significant when his surviving eldest son George took on that as his surname in order to inherit the Dowdeswell estates in 1915.
