In 1901 he was a C of E clergyman on the staff of 7 such at the Vicarage, Bethnal Green, London, all unmarried.  It was him with the birth place of St Mary Cray, Kent.

In 1911 again with the St Mary Cray Birth, he was a clergyman baording with a gardiner in Tick hill, Rotherham and still single.

In 1918 a George Brens-Dowdeswell married a Eveleen M Hunter in Bromley district.

In 1924 a George Berens-Dawdeswell was an executor for his mother.

In 1930 a George Berens-Dowdeswell was a party to a transacrtion for GWR shares for his sister Violet Frances Wareing.

In 1934 a George Berens-Dowdeswell was a sworn executor to his brother Cyril Berens.

In 1945 a George Berens Dawdeswell died in Abingdon.

In 1946 probate was given twice for a George Berens-Dowdeswell.

The question in all this is whether George Berens and Gorge Berens-Dowdeswell were one and the same person.
Perhaps there will be something in the London Gazette?

In fact various law reports show that he had been left an estate for life on the condition that he implemented a name and arms clause.  He duly changed his name but found that he could not change his arms and a judge then said he did not need to.

So he was one and the same person.

Arms Generally notes for Rev George Berens-Dowdeswell
The following was found in the Gloucester Citizen of 18th February 1926, p. 7:

Rev G.B Dowdeswell and Construction of a Will
                                           —————
                                  Chancery Court Decision
                                           ——————
                           (Special Telegram to “The Citizen”)
                                                                     London, Thursday
Mr. Justice Russell in the Chancery Division to-day, gave his decision relating to the coat of arms to be assumed by the Rev. George Berens Dowdeswell, of Pull Court, near Tewkesbury, the tenant for life of the estate of Siudcup, settled by the will of Henry Hulse Berens, and the Pull Court estate settled by the will of William Dowdeswell.
The question raised in the case was whether on true construction of the will of the testator Dowdeswell, the name and arms clause there was binding on the Rev. George Berens Dowdeswell, and, if so, whether he had complied with the direction contained in that clause.
His lordship said the question for determination by the Court was this: Was it impossible for the Rev. George berens Dowdeswell within twelve calendar months of June 1915, when he became tenant for life in possession of the Pull Court estate, to have assumed under the sanction of an act of Parliament or Royal Licence the surname of Dowdeswell and also the arms of Dowdeswell.  There was no question that he duly assumed the surname of Dowdeswell.  His Lordship had already held the by the words “the arms of Dowdeswell” the testator meant the arms which he had been granted in Edmund Dowdeswell, his predecessor.
Upon the evidence, his Lordship had no doubt that it was impossible for him to obtain a grant of testator’s arms.  In order to get a grant of the testator’s arms, it would be necessary for the applicant to establish direct descent from some person to whom they had been allowed.  This clearly was impossible for the Rev. George Berens Dowdeswell.  It was argued that is had not been established that he could not in 1916 have obtained the sanction of an Act of Parliament to his assumption and use of the testator’s arms.  There was no evidence one way or the other, but his Lordship thought he was entitled to draw upon common knowledge and common sense in this matter.
He (the Judge) did not pause to consider the kind of reception the Rev G Berens Dowdeswell would have met with if he had invited Parliament to divert its attention from the matter of a great war in order to legislate for his personal and private ends.  It seemed to him impossible to accept any views except that Parliament even if it entertained the application at all, would not have authorised the assumption of arms which would have been a violation both of the rights of their parties and the laws of arms.  The result was that the clause so far as it imposed a condition of assuming the arms of Dowdeswell was not binding on the Rev George Berens Dowdeswell.

DNB Main notes for Rev George Berens-Dowdeswell
From the Cheltenham Chronicle of 1 December 1945

FORMER SQUIRE OF PULL COURT

The death occurred at his home at Sutton Courtenay, Berkshire, of the Rev. George Berens-Dowdeswell, M.A., who was in his 80th year.
Mr Berens-Dowdeswell will be remembered in the Tewkesbury district as the owner of the Pull Court estate and Lord of the Manor of Bushley.
The Dowdeswell family were established at Pull Court for upwards of 300 years, and from the time that Richard Dowdeswell the Cavalier became M.P. for Tewkesbury after the restoration, half a dozen other members of the family have represented the borough in Parliament.
Mr Berens, as he then was, succeeded to the estate in 1915 on the death of his cousin, the late Canon E.R. Dowdeswell and by royal licence assumed the additional surname of Dowdeswell the following year.  At that time he was Rector of Foots Cray, but resigned the Ry??? in 1921 to live at Pull Court.
Later he sold the estate, transferred the advowson of Bushley to the Society of the Faith and retired to Sutton Courtenay.
