Details: STOPFORD, Francis Powys, journalist and essayist; born
Westbourne Lodge, 6 December 1861; 3rd son of late Rev. F. M. Stopford (Chaplain in Ordinary to Queen Victoria and Hon. Chaplain to Edward VII, George V), and Florence Augusta, youngest daughter of Charles Saunders, one of the founders and first Sec. Great Western Railway.

Work: Has cultivated coffee on the hills of South India, also tea, cinchona, pepper, cocoa, and Manila hemp; one of the founders of the Planters' Association of Southern India, 1893; has worked on staff, in some instances edited, Madras Times, Madras Mail, Civil and Military Gazette of Lahore, Daily Mail, Daily Express, St James' Gazette, Standard, Evening Standard, The World, and Land and Water.

Publications: The Planting Industry of Southern India, 1896; The Toil of Life, 1907; Life's Great Adventure, 1912; Fleet Street and Downing Street (with Kennedy Jones), 1919; Romance of the Jewel, 1920.
