From the Clergy of the Church of England database:

On 18 Dec 1825 he was ordained deacon in All Souls Chapel by Edward Legge, bishop of Oxford.

On 21 May 1826 he was ordained priest at Christ Church Cath by the same.

On 21 Jul 1826 he became Rector of Warkford with the patron being the Duchess of Buccleuch & Queensbury.

(His uncle, the third earl, had married the eldest daughter of the 3rd duke of Buccleuch.)

In 1844 he married one of Hannah Twigger, Eliza Oliver, Lucy Fox, Ann Hodgkin in Leicester.

In fact she was Lucy Fox, widow; see their marriage details.

In 1851, there is the tiny problem of where all these children came from; the enumerator’s sheet says they were niesce/nephews and orphans.  Anyhow they were all at The Rectory, Kettering, Northamptonshire:

In 1861 the elder of their two nephews was not in residence, otherwise all was well at Rectory, Warkton, Kettering, Northamptonshire:

I reckon the birthplace of the three Johnsons was “Leicester County Town”, from the enumerator’s sheet.
Ooops they were Johnsons in the previous census but are Thompsons in 1861…

As yet I have no idea whether he dsp or not.

I await the wills of he and his wife to see if there are any indications that they had children.

Nothing firm on the wills.  I think he dsp.
______________________

The Johnson/Thompson children could be related either on his or his wife’s side.  I can find no birth or baptism records for them nor can I find any record after George and Lucy had died in 1868-1872.  They were not with her in 1871.

Will notes for Rev George Powys Stopford
His probate index:

1868
STOPFORD The Reverend George Powys
Effects under £2,000

27 January
The Will with a Codicil of the Reverend George Powys Stopford formerly Rector of Warkton but late of Barton Seagrave both in the County of Northampton Clerk deceased who died 28 December 1867 at Barton Seagrave aforesaid was proved at the Principal Registry by the oath of James Sydney Stopford of 18-Savile-row in the County of Middlesex Esquire the Brother one of the Executors.

Will ordered 30 September 2021.
___________________

His will was remarkably simple.  With the codicil which added his brother James Sydney Stopford and a friend Willliam Smyth as executors to Lucy his wife the original appointee, he left everything to his wife Lucy.  He did not, as Lucy reported in her will, make any special request in his will for John George Tompson nor did he refer to any of the other four Thompson children.

So I am stuck with working out who these Tom℗son children were.  I do not know whose nephews and hieces they were, George’s or Lucy’s.
