Notes for Lucy (Fox)
I need to find her maiden name.

In 1844 she swore on an oath that she was a widow.  She was a widow by 1841 as she was then resident with the rector.

40 odd marriages found between a Lucy and a Fox between 1820 and 1840. I suppose I could go through them all and see which led to a husband’s death before 1842.  But waiting for a will in two or three weeks sounds a better use of my time.

In 1871 she was at Prospect Cottage, Little Houghton, Hardingstone, Northamptonshire and all the Johnson/Thompson children had gone:

STOPFORD Lucy
Effects under £2,000

28 November
The Will with a Codicil of Lucy Stopford late of Little Houghton in the County of Northampton Widow who died 6 November 1872 at Little Houghton was proved at Northampton by James Sydney Stopford of 3 Halkin-Place Belgrave-square in the County of Middlesex Esquire and the Reverend Christopher Smyth of Little Houghton Clerk the Executors.

Will ordered 30 September 2021.
______________________

Her will was delivered on 1 Oct, very quick.  In it she mainly provided for her nephews and nieces, the Tomsons or Tompsons.  She referred to a special charge made in his will by her late husband to provide for John George Tompson.
I still do not know whose relations the Tompsons were, whether they were her husbands or hers.
Nor do I have any clarification of her sworn statement that on marriage to her late husband she was already a widow.
