Hi Listers
My 3x great grandfather purchased land " The Thynne Estate around Tamworth, a Colliery in Wilnecote, and land and either built or bought DOSTHILL HOUSE. this would be around 1793. Sir Robert Peel purchase adjacent land, at this time also.
I have a photo of Dosthill House, which I believe is a few miles from Tamworth. the photo taken c 1930.
Lady Peel lived in the house after the death of my 2 x gr. grandfather in 1846.
Does anyone know about the land & house.
or any reference to them.
Regards
Mary

The deaths on FreeBMD are a little too complex to unwrap. It is known that he was alive in 1861 census and did not appear in 1871, so probably died between those dates. He was born in 1806, and the deaths after 1866 gives ages, of which his would have been 60; the only JH of the right age who died after 1866 did so in the Isle of Wight which does not look right. Between 1861 and 1866, there are 13 JH deaths, some of which are in the area of Dosthill Ho, Staffs. A more appealing one is:
Q1 of 1864, Stafford dist, vol 6b, p. 20
But either of these could be him as well:
Q4 of 1861, W Bromwich, vol 6b, p. 313
Q4 of 1861, Belper dist, vol 7b, p. 252
June 2013, TFPL: Janet, a Haywood descendant, has pointed me to the entries by the Ryde Social Heritage Group, specifically his gravestone at <
http://www.rshg.org.uk/grave_record.asp?graveid=3369> which records:
Top Side North facing
JAMES HAYWOOD ESQ., LATE OF DOSTHILL HOUSE, WARWICKSHIRE
DIED AT RYDE 11TH MARCH 1866
Top End West facing
HE IS NOT DEAD BUT SLEEPETH
Top Side South facing
I SHALL GO TO HIM BUT HE SHALL NOT RETURN TO ME
Top End East facing
HIS WILL BE DONE
The first line of this clearly identifies him and his death date.

The above MI means that this is his GRO death entry:

Nothing can be found on FamilySearch about his baptism, parents or siblings. We know that he had a brother Thomas, born in 1801, as shown in the 1861 census. I wonder if this Joseph Haywood, magistrate, was a relative, from the 1851 census:
Surname Forename Age Relation Occupation Birth Place
Haywood Joseph 60 Head Magistrate Sheffield, Yorkshire
Ref: HO107/2342/~F221
Address: Pye Bank
Parish: Brightside Bierlow

Joseph would have been born in 1791.
