From the Portsmouth Evening news of 30 Dec 1903:

“      DEATH OF AN RNLI CAPTAIN

“  Captain Wyndham H. Stopford, of the Royal Marine Light Infantry, died on Saturday at Albany House, Hove, the residence of his father-in-law, the Reve W. N. Leeson, at the age of twenty-five.  He was the youngest son of the late Mr J. S. Stopford of Redhill, entered the Service as a second Lieutenant in 1896, became a Lieutenant in the following year, and a Captain in July last.  He was attached to the Chatham Division, and formerly held the position of Assistant Instructor of Musketry at the depot.”
