From a ship’s Passenger list for the ’SS SAARBRUTECKEN’ of the NORDDEUTSCHER LLOYD LINE:
On 2 Nov 1934 he left Britain for Manila with his wife May C Stopford
He was 30 years old and a Merchant
She was 27 years old, so born around 1907.
They had been staying at 7 Collingwood Terr. Westgate on-sea.
They both said that their last country of permanent residence was a foreign country.
They had with them a 2 year old son, Neville, so born around 1932.
Their country of future permanent residence was “P.I.”, possibly Phillipine Islands?

They were going to disembark at Hong Kong.

He was a Japanese prisoner of War in WW2, but the record is not on-line.
Possibly she too was a prisoner of war, from a mention in USA records.
This is the entries from a USA list of all prisoners of war, note that they were civilian POWs but I cannot interpret the rest of the data:
STOPFORD ANNE CIV 6 0 45T0075172526
STOPFORD CRAIG CIV 6 0 45T0075172526
STOPFORD NEVILLE CIV 6 0 45T0075172526
STOPFORD W H CIV 6 0 45T0075172526
STOPFORD WYNDHAM H MRS CIV 6 0 45T0075172526

On March 23rd 1945 he and his family were on the USS “John LYKES” from Manila Phillipines to USA; the family had an addition son, Craig then aged 5. I can only surmise that the shipload was all of people who had been imprisoned by the Japanese in Manila in WW2; remarkably both the adults and the three children survived this.
The Passenger List has fairly extensive information, of a quality almost equal to a census:
Age Birth
Surname Forenames Yr M Sx St Work Nat Place Date
Stopford Wyndham H 40 8 M M Franklin Baker Co Eng Hove, Eng
Stopford May 37 6 F M USA San Antonio, Texas Oct 11 1907
Stopford Neville 12 9 M S USA Manila, P.I. Jul 2 1932
Stopford Ann 9 9 F S USA Manila, P.I. Jul 4 1935
Stopford Craig 5 11 M S USA Manila, P.I. Apr 17 1939
I shall use this information for the reocrds of May and the children.

He travelled first class.
He was a Merchant aged 42.
His country of last permanent residence was foreign,
His country of future permanent residence was Phillipine Islands

The above shows that he had a second marriage to Charlotte Burns Clark but British Columbia will, in 2021, only release marriage info for marriages before 1946. So I have slender documentation to enter.
B.C. does not have a death entry for her up to 2000.
