No record can be found of her birth on Irish records or in FindMyPast's records of 'the world'.

She cannot be found in any census until those in 1901 and 1911 in England.

She is to be found in the birth or census records of all her eleven children.

This is the only death of a Susan J Gosling born from 1860 to 1864, from 1911, when she was alive in Ipswich, to 1951, so it is very likely to be hers.

Her first marriage with Harry Troup was easily found in Irish records from the fact of her maiden name of Hicks in the birth records of some of her children combined with her reported fact of birth in Kinsale, Co Cork, Ireland.

A marriage has been found for undoubtedly her in 1887 with a George Kent, a smith with the Royal Artillery.  I wonder if he later changed his name from Kent to Gosling?  I think he did, all the information confirms this.  But it made it hard to trace the family until the picture was virtually complete.

Also in the 1911 census she said that she had had 10 children of whom five survived.  In fact I have found eleven births in total for her second marriage that are clearly her and George's children.  In addition there are some seven Troup births in India, three of which are clearly her and Harry's children.  So in total she had at least 14 children.

Her birth date is unclear:
At marriage in 1880 she was said to be a minor, so under 21, so born in 1860 or after.
In the 1901 census she was said to be 39, so born in 1861 or 1862.
In the 1911 census she was said to be 48, so born in 1862 or 1863.
At her probable death in 1931 she was said to be 67, so born in 1863 or 1864.

If she really was born in 1864, she would have been 15 or 16 at marriage with her then 30-year-old husband.  This was not unusual for those times but I would incline to the view that she would have been older and have gone for a birth around 1862.  Her last child, of at least 14, was born in November 1903, making her 41 or so when she appears to have gone through the menopause.
