He is known only from the two marriages of his daughter Susan Jane.  Nothing can be found of his wife or of the birth of Susan Jane.

However these is a record of the death of a Walter Hicks (or Hickes or Hickss), possibly of Kinsale, on 15 Jane 1887 which says he was married, 60 years old, and a labourer.  No mention of being a R.A. pensioner as in the marriage of his daughter in 1880.  No sign of his wife either.
