In 1911 he and his wife Evelyn were living in splendour in Whitsbury House, Whitsbury, Salisbury, Hants and he reported that his wife had had one child who was still living, but not in residence. But what was the son’s name? The best guess is that the registration will have been in the Fordingbridge registration district. And this proved right, though made easier by the fact that he too was named Henry Powys.

Looking for the son in the census led to finding the son in 1901, at home and with his mother. Henry the father was not in the house and may have still been in the army and possibly abroad.
