Notes for James Hamilton
He was granted sasine to Raploch on 10 June 1503, together with Isobel Weier his wife, by James, 2nd lord Hamilton and 1st earl of Arran; witnesses were David Hamilton, Canon of Glasgow, Jmes hamilton of Shawfield, William Hamilton of Candor and James and John Hamiltons, brother of the Granter.
The full text is reported in the Historical manuscripts Commission as:
"140. Precept of Sasine by James (second) Lord Hamilton, directed to William Hamilton of Candor, John Hamilton, his son and apparent heir, and others, as bailies for infefting James Hamilton in Raploch, and Isabella Weir his spouse, in the granter's lands of Raploch, in the barony of Machan, within the sheriffdom of Lanark, in conjunct fee, in terms of a charter to them of said lands. At Hamilton, 10th June 1503. Witnesses, David Hamilton, Canon of Glasgow, James Hamilton, brothers natural of the granter, and others. Signed "James lord Hamylton." Portion of seal attached."
Also on 10th June: 10th June 1503: James, Lord Hamilton infefted James Hamilton in Raploch in the barony of Machan, within the sheriffdom of Lanark.
His wife was Isobel Weir, of Blackwood. They had five sons:
1. James Hamilton of Stanehouse
2. Thomas hamilton of Raploch
3. Archibald hamilton, of Raploch in succession to Thomas,
4. Gavin H., Commendater of Kilwinning, of Raploch in succession to Archibald
5. John H., 1st of Neilsland
James H. the father was Sheriff of Lanark in 1510 and died bef 1538.
