In George Ormerod’s ‘The History of Cheshire’, vol III, p. 108, he quotes this mural monument in Sandbach church (all lines being in the centre of the plaque):
In memory of
Edward Powys,
of Wheelock, esq. who departed
this life September 29, 1768
aged 59
much lamented by his acquaintenance.
This momument is erected by his relict Catherine Powys,
and his son Thomas Jelf Powys, esq.
This mural provides the sole evidence to date for his birth year.
