Notes for Eliza Coster
m. (1) Arthur Grant, (2) William Stedman Gillett.

In FreeBMD an Elizabeth Stedman died in 1876 aged 62, registered at Petersfield, Hants, Vol 2c, page 93.  Not far off...

And, even better, in FreeBMD, an Eliza Gillett died in Sept 1879 quarter, registered S Stoneham, aged 58, Vol 2c page 24

April 2004, TFPL: One or two facts are emerging:

At the birth of her daughter Mary Hodgson Gillett, she was called "Eliza Gillett late Grant formerly Coster", thus confirming the information from RCLPL that she had previously married a Grant.

In the 1861 census she was living with her family at Harefield, South Stoneham.  Her family then included her children (stepchildren to William Stedman Gillett):
Arthur H Grant, aged 11, born in Southend, Essex
Adela R(?) B(?) Grant, aged 10, born in Marylebone, Middlesex
thus confirming further her previous marriage to Arthur Grant.
In 1861 she was reported to be 39 and born in Southwark St Georges (possibly the place of her christening?).

In the 1871 census, her two Grant children are not to be seen but both would have been 20 and may have fled the nest.  Her age is reported as 50 and she is reported (wrongly?) to have been born at the same place as her husband - Surrey, St Mary's Bermondsey.
________________________________________________________

At her second marriage, to Wm S Gillett, she was Eliza Grant, widow and her father was Thomes Coster, who was almost certainly the Thomas G W Coster, gentleman, who witnessed the marriage, another witness was Maria Coster, almost certainly her mother.  She had been living at Christ Church rectory (Marylebone?).  Another witness was Henry Edwards who could have been a friend or relation of anyone...

On her death certificate she was 58, wife of William Stedman, Gillett, Gentleman.  The informant was Elizabeth Allen, present at the death and of Herefield, Bitterne, South Stoneham.  Hence her birth was late 1820 - early 1821.
