He was the first of his line to take the surname of Lucy.

In 1204 he was fostered with hi uncle Godfrey, bishop of Winchester.

In Aug 1234, per Dugdale, he was made hereditary constable of Ludlow, Shropshire.  Previously this had been held by his Dispenser ancestors.

He acquired much land in Warks.

In 1240 he sold some land to liquidate 100 marks of debt to Jewish lenders.

He was keeper of Kenilworth castle and sheriff in Warks and Leics.

Dugdale found a marriage settlement in the 1630s between William and Isabella of Alderminster, but it is not certain that the marriage happened.

He, and probably Maud, had 2 sons, William II and John and 2 daus Isabella, who m. Geoffrey Lascelles, and Alice, who m. Thomas of Fenwick, Northumberland.
