Notes for Humfrey Barrington
In Betham's "Baronetage of England", 1801:
"12. Humphrey Barrington, son and heir to the said Thomas, married Margaret, daughter of ------- Bretton of Essex and had issue..
(Note: Muilman [Muilman's Essex, Vol IV, p.115] says Humphrey was brother to Thomas, who died v.p.)"
Clayton in his Barrington Family History says that Humphrey "was a very wild and turbulent man", having been summoned on the Manor rolls six times for assaults on different persons... Firther he continues that Humphrey led a most discreditable life; in 1478 an order of the court was made that he should not maintain nor harbour in his house, Joan, daughter of a John Payn, a woman of scandalous conduct, under a penalty of ten pounds. The summonses occur from 1462 to 1477.
