Notes for Thomas Barrington
Heir to his father's, his mother's and his uncle Edmund's estates.

In Betham's "Baronetage of England", 1801:

"Thomas, the eldest son, was the inheritor of his father's lands in Hatfield, Writtle, etc and after the death of his uncle Edward Barrington, was seized of the manors of Chevesfield, Gravesley, Lecheford, and lands in Weston; at the first of which places he held a court, 16 Henry VI.  1438; was high sheriff of Essex and Hertofrd, 30 henry VI.  He married first Margaret ------, secondly Anne, the second daughter, and one of the heirs, of Sir John Holbeach, Knt and of his wife, the daughter and co-heir of Sir John Rochford of Lincolnshire, Knt.  He lies buried with his wife Anne, in the church of Hatfield Broad-Oak.  She dying the day after him this distich was made of them:
  He first deceas'd; she for a few hours tried;
  To live without him, lik'd it not and died."

Here is the inscription on a brass that was owned by the Barringtons:

Hic jacent Thomas Baryngton armiger at Anna uxor ejus qui quidem Th(omas) obiit v die Aprilis A.D. MCCCCLXX et eadem Anna obiit proximo die sequente quorum [animabus] propicietur Deus.
  Forma, genus, mores, sapientia, res et honores
  Morte ruunt subita - sola manent merita.
