Notes for Sir William Twysden Bart
Martin P-L writes:

Of Royden Hall, East Peckham, Kent.

Sir William was mentioned in connection with James II's repeal of the Test Act (v. Ashley's James II, and G.F.Duckett's Penal Laws, Test Act, vol.1, pp.354 & 364, published in 1863.) [TFPL: He also gets 20 odd pages in J R Twysden's book.]
They [TFPL: Not "they" for Wm died 15 years before the marriage] presumably came to live with them, for she gave a plate to Whitchurch in 1725 [TFPL: this also explains why a lease of Royden Hall was found among the Lybbe deeds].  AP-L has portraits of the two Twysdens and of their son, Heneage, who was killed at Malplaquet and buried in Westminster Abbey.  [TFPL: Curiously J R Twisden thought the pair of pictures were at Royden Hall until 1834 and then sold at an auction in 1872, to be lost since then (see p. 289).  I wonder if those were in fact copies and Dame Frances took the originals and that of her son with her to Hardwick; certainly they were listed as being at Hardwick by Caroline Girle in 1762.  Or are APL's the copies?  The opinion of some valuers is that ours are definitely copies, and heavily restored by Victorians at that, but that they do date from Jacobean times.)

A co-representative of the Welles barony - see the Walrond case in Burke's Commoners, Vol II, p.558.

On Nov 24 2021, I found an image of the parish Marriage Register entry of St Swithin London Stone for their marriage:

“Marriage squire Twisden sonne of Se. Roger Twisden and ffrances Cross on the 13 of June 1665, y living f Forber Owen”

(I am not sure my transcript is right.)
