In 1939 there was a young Stephen R Stopford, born 01 Apr 1934, living with his grandmother and aunt (see the former’s Notes); I assumed that Stephen, with that surname, must be the son of this Robert Horace. Now to see if any of this can be verified.
No record can be found of such a birth

BP reports of him in the 2003 edition: “Robert Maurice, DSC (1918); b 16 July 1890; Cdr RN, WWs I (despatches) and II; m 11 Feb 1920 Elsie Helen (d 30 Nov 1967), dau of Capt Francis William Lawson, Connaught Rangers, and d 22 Nov 1978”.
and BP then gave him and Elsie three children, 2 s. and 1 dau.

However there is one birth records for a Stopford child, Rosemary, with a mother’s maiden name of Lawson:

1. Michael Robert Horace Stopford
2. Rosemary Elsie Evelyn Mills
3. Steven Robert Anthony Stopford
He also listed his grandmother Matilda Caroline Stopford in relation to a trust of one moiety of her residuary estate. But then revoked all this in a codicil of 24th Feb 1969
No surprises. But it confirms the existence of the three children.
