Generaldsp. Her parents were John Palmer and Susan McLean.
Notes for Sarah Palmer
By the time of the 1881 census she was already a widow and staying with her sister in law.  This census gave her birth year as 1845 and in Scotland.

This led to finding her baptism on Scotland’s People:

“1844
”Sarah, lawful Daughter of John Palmer Younghusband % Susan McLean residing at Mark, was born 14th August and Baptised 3d. September next by the Revd. Mr Reid of KirKimer”.

There is an oddity about her father’s name: at her baptism he was “John Palmer Younghusband” and at the 1871 census he was “John Palmer Palmer”.  This looks like my grandfather who was “Guy Ferrand ferrand”.  So I wonder if he inherited an estate on his mother’s side and had to change his name and arms to Palmer?

I may look into this sometime, but it is aside from the current quest to document Powys descendants.

In 1876 she proved the will of her husband and gave her residence as Physgill House, Whithorn in the County of Wigtown, Scotland.

By a remarkable coincidence this residence was the one given by her sister-in-law’s husband, Admiral Kennedy in 1896 when he was executor for his mother’s will.
Sarah’s father had been a landowner and she had married in Kensington.  It is just possible that he had owned or rented this place himself perhaps on a very long lease.  Being a landowner he might have had enough wealth to provide for his second daughter in considerable style.  I would have been surprised if a the widow’s pension of a Commander, her young husband, would have provided for quite this sort of establishment.
