Now to list the children from the registration information by a search for all Gater births with a mother’s maiden name of Rowe from 1889 to 1919:

FindMyPast produces 8 births:

Last name  First name(s)  Year Of Birth  Location
Gater      Henry          1891           Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Gater      Ada            1893           Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Gater      Lily           1896           Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Gater      Minnie         1898           Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Gater      Albert         1900           Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Gater      May            1902           Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Gater      Horace         1908           Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Gater      Frederick      1914           Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England

So far on FindMyPast:
Ernest was not (fully) registered but was on the census
Ada looks like she died
May looks like she died.
Frederick was added to the total of 10 to make it 11 births.

The GRO index produces:

One missing…

I have been through the GRO again and this time allowed it to search all UK, not just Wolstanton.  It made no difference, still only 10 in total including Frederick who appeared after the 1911 census.

An answer might be that one of the births just was not registered.

It might be worth seeing if any baptisms are on record.  None found.

What did FindMyPast get wrong to have left out two people?  They left out Arthur and Ernest.
For Arthur Gater there are two registrations, one in Wolstanton in 1903 and one in Stoke on Trent in 1904; neither have the mother’s maiden name.  Curiously there are also two registrations the same for Arthur Rowe.
For Ernest Gater there are three registrations, one in Wolstanton in 1902, one again in Wolstanton in 1904 and an Ernest James in Stoke on Trent in 1903.  All three have no mother’s maiden name.  There are no parallel Rowe registrations.  There are three Gater registrations in Wolstanton from 1902 to 1904:
Ernest in 1902, mother  = Johnson,
Ernest in 1904, mother  = Bailey,
‘blank’ in 1904, mother = Harris.
There are, in fact, 31 Gater registration between 1901 and 1905.  I think I am chasing my tail on this one.

All I can find for Fanny’s children are 10 registered births up to the last in 1914.  So that is her score.
