Mike Haddock’s account of him is:
John Lock apprenticed 1602 as a merchant of Bristol; Mayor of Bristol 1641. Married Bathseba/
Bathshua d/o Edward Barnard of Downside, Shepton Mallett. “John Lock of the Citty of Bristol merchant and eldest Alderman of the said Citty”, died/buried 27 Nov 1666, having written his Will 9 Nov 1665, cod 4 Jul 1666, pvd 26 Mar 1667 (PROB:11/323) recording inter alia: “my four granddaughters Mary, Bathsheba, Sarah, Christian (children of Barker); my grandsonne John Barker; my grandsonne Samuel Lock my signet ring”.

2. Mary. Married John Barker of Lincoln’s Inn, Bar-at-Law. (Daughter Bathsheba Barker married Thomas Mils merchant).

In the Visitation of London Commenced in 1687 it includes this note to the original for this John Lock:
Apprenticed 1602, bur 27 Nov 1666. Kinsman of the philosopher John Locke, who recorded a recipe for a weapon salve given him ‘by my cousin Alderman Locke of Bristol’, H.E. Nott, ed., The Deposition Books of Bristol, Vol I, 1643-1647, Bristol Record Society, vol 6(1935), 251-252.
Mike Haddock reports that there are suggestions that the philosopher was the son of John who was son of Christopher who was brother to Richard the father of this John Lock.
