On various internet sites there are reports of silver by ‘Frederick Bradford McCrae of 54 Victoria Street, London’ from 1880 odd onwards.  I wonder who this can be?  Certainly we know nothing of the man from his retirement around 1869 to his death in 1914.  Further one site says of the silversmith that he was the first director of the Army and Navy Co-Operative Society, an indicator of a possible military career.

And on 25 Apr 1884 there was this report from the Old Bailey:

“Reference Number: t18840225-366

“366. JOSEPH BARGE (35) PLEADED GUILTY . to unlawfully writing and publishing a libel of and and concerning Frederick Bradford McCrea and others.— Discharged on his own recognisances in 50l. to appear for judgment when called on and to keep the peace.”

Would that we could know what this was about!
