Notes for Capt Hilary Norman RN
No birth record found on FreeBMD unless he was this:
Births Sep 1899 (>99%) Norman Hilery Uppingham 7a 359
His father was Surgeon Vice-Admiral Sir William Henry Norman; see his obit in The TImes on 19 Mar 1934.
He was a s. of his father’s second marriage (see The Times, as above).
IN the 1911 census he was probably the unnamed Master Norman with his parents in Stonehouse Devon, aged 10 and born in Queensferry, Midlothian, Scotland. So born in 1900-01. Also in the accomodation was his mother Lucy, 35 years old, which corresponds with her birth year of 1935 given in the 1939 Register.

His death could be either of these:
Last name First name Born Died Event Record set Location
Norman Hilary 1900 1956 1956 England & Wales Deaths 1837-2007 Oundle, Northamptonshire
Norman Hilary N St V 1898 1943 1943 England & Wales Deaths 1837-2007 St. Austell, Cornwall, England
But no probate entry found for either Hilary, though the 1943 death does have a Henry N St Vincent Norman probate.
On second thoughts, he was definitely alive at the time of his wife’s 1993 will, so both of the above can be discarded.
So his death date is unknown.
Or it could be:
Last name First name Born Died Event Location
Norman Hilary Joseph 1903 2000 2000 Taunton, Somerset
His wife also died in Somerset.
________________
In fact a search for him on his own in the 1911 census revealed him at the top of the subsequent page fto his parents that was found previously. He was 7 years old and born in Bermuda West Indies. No mention of the second name of Joseph. So Master Norman aged 10 was his elder brother and Lucy Joyce aged 3 was his sister, completing the three children their mother reported on the previous page.
A further realisation is that the eldest son was not Master Norman but ‘Masters Norman’ where Masters was his forename. His birth is on the Scots records for 1901 at Queensferry.
This means that the following is almost certainly Hilary’s death index, the only misgiving being the addition of the second name of Joseph which is not seen anywhere else; the probate index does not include ‘Joseph’:
First name(s) HILARY JOSEPH
Last name NORMAN
