Notes for Rev John Sibley Woodman
There are no deaths on FreeBMD for any name like his up to 1899. But I had his name as ‘Sibley Woodman’ and the 1881 census has ‘John S Woodman’. With the correct name, his death in 1886 was easily found and it listed him as ‘John Sibley Woodman’.
The 1881 census had him living at the Rectory at Spettisbury, Dorset with his wife, son, sister in-law and 2 nieces and a nephew, the latter three of whom were all born in India. The sister in law was named Palmer and also born in Piddletrehenthide, the same as his wife, but this does not give their maiden name. They had 4 servants.
The 1871 has his wife’s unmarried sister plus one niece (a ward) and one nephew (a scholar) living with them.

It is highly likely that he had a sister Sophia Charlotte, who m. a man from Bingley, and a brother Robert Townley who married Mary Skelton Busfeild. From the 1841 census, it is very likely also that JSW’s father was James.

In the 1851 census he is listed as born in Barsted, Sussex.
Notes for John Sibley & Emma Bridge (Family)
The marriage records on FreeBMD allowed me to deduce that ‘Emma B’ of the 1881 census was in fact ‘Emma Bridge Palmer’.
