Note that the 1851 census also give a birth date for his daughter of 1808, which is confirmed by the baptism record (see her entry) in April 1809.
This makes it more likely that he did NOT die in 1804, as reported by William Brown his nephew. I would incline to a death date of no earlier than 1808. But searching for this death anywhere between Edinburgh, London and Lisbon is a tad fraught.
