In the 1901 census he was living at 15 Marton St (?), Port Clarence, Co Durham, aged 48 and born in Ireland and was working as a "stove-cleaner".

In the 1901 census, his house contained he and his wife, his wife's uncle (or brother?), 5 children and three boarders, 11 in all.

Here’s his death from FreeBMD:

August 2010: David Jones, a descendant of Neil’s has got in touch and reported that he has obtained a marriage certificate between Cornelius Mallon and Margaret Yarrow, dated 30 Jan 1877 in Kildress parish, Cookstown district, Co Tyrone.  The fathers of the happy couple are Hugh Paul Mallon, farmer, and James Yarrow.  I am eagerly awaiting sight of this certificate as it represents a major breakthrough to an earlier generation.  The notable point is the use of the Mallon, not Mellon, surname.  The first two children, Bridget and Francis, born to Neil and Margaret are clearly named Mallon in the BMD indices and this all makes more sense of the enumerator’s use of Mallow in the 1881 census.

I have put in red the five additional children to Neil and Margaret that are in the 1891 census.

What this shows is that starting with Mary A in 1882, all subsequent children were registered and all census entries made with the name of Mellon.

The above birth list needs to be re-built by using the mother’s maiden name on the GRO’s Online register.

Poss m. around 1877?

I can’t find their marriage in FreeBMD from 1865 to 1885; so they were married in Ireland?
