Notes for Agnes Chaumpneys (?)
In the Kent visitation of 1574, p. 31, there is an entry for the Sibill family in which Agnes is included as the daughter of William Champnes. This was rather remote in time from the visitation entry of 1574, so I have asked on soc.gen.med if anyone has heard anything about this.
Dec 2010: Michael Andrews-Reading has taken the bit between his teeth and found the will of William Chaumpneys and kindly shared this with me. This will was dated 1360, some two hundred hears before the visitation, so is definitely a remote and thin connection. Curiously I already, but unknowingly, had the book from in which the will was found (Calendar of Wills proved and enrolled in the Court of Husting, London).
The will of Agnes’ supposed father, William, is dated 1360 and clearly names his daughter Agnes who is presumably unmarried. However S J O’Connor in his Cartularies of Adam Fraunceys says “Some time before May 1359 he married Agnes, probably a London girl. though not before she had borne him at least two sons, Robert and Adam.” and, if correct, this somewhat conflicts with William’s will.
