Notes for Capt Thomas Francis Gambell R.N.R.
FreeBMD has two Thomas Francises, the first of whom is T F Jacob and the first was b. in 1862 and the second in 1870. I am assuming he is the second. Confirmation is in Thomas F J’s death on FreeBMD in 1866. There is no death of TFG up to 1935.
Stephen Marks reports that he was a sea captain with his first command being on the Strathdon, which is one guise was a four-masted sailing ship and I even have a picture of this. (But I thought steam was fairly prevalent around 1900.) He was known as Frank.

He was on the 1911 census but the only Thomas Gambell in 1901 was a farm worker born in Newham Kent who I don’t think to be him.
Not found in the 1891 census but in 1881 I think this is his family, with his birth place agreeing with 1911, of Buckland, Bucks. His father’s occupation could also be ‘flat business’:
TFPL, Jan 2021: I am perplexed by my inclusion of this census as I just do not think it is Eleanor Constance as the wife.
