I have received from Frances Macneil, his great-grand-daughter, a copy of a death announcement in a paper:
MONDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1890
POWYS-At Garden Creek, Kingsclear, on the 18th inst., William Cunliffe Powys, Captain, late of H. M. 22nd regiment, aged 49 years.
A small photo accompanied this. I am hoping to get a copy of either an enlargement or of the original.

From the London Gazette:
2 Mar 1860: “22nd Foot, ... Ensign William Cunliffe Powys to be Lieutenant, by purchase, vice Proctor. Dated 2nd March, 1860.”
12 Sep 1865: “22nd Foot, Lieutenant William Cunliffe Powys to be Captain, by purchase, vice Harry Houlton Palmer Vivian, who retires. Dated 12th September, 1865.”
19 Aug 1873: “NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, John Lilly and William Cunliffe Powys, as Engineers, Millwrights, aud Machine Makers, at Crawford-passage, Farringdon-road, in the county of Middlesex, and Brewhouse-yard, Saint Johnstreet, Clerkenwell, in the same county, under the style or firm of John Lilly and Company, was dissolved, by mutual consent, as from the 25th day of March last, by the retirement of the said William Cunliffe Powys from the said firm.
Dated this 14th day of August, 1873.
