When her last brother died, her brother Edward, she changed name and arms to Ferrand, to satisfy Benjamin Ferrand's will of ca 1800.

At her death she was 70 and widow of Currer Fothergill Busfeild, gentleman.  She died of influenza and the informant was Mary Porter who was present at the death and of St Ives, nr Bingley.

The estates then passed to her eldest son William who likewise to her, changed his name from Busfeild to Ferrand.

In later life she was still corresponding with the Hudigs of Amsterdam, probably the last Ferrand to do so until David Ferrand in c. 2001.

She wrote this remarkable letter to her eldest daughter:

My dear Katharine,

I have received your two letters. I did not answer the first as I was and am very much occupied and having sent my good wishes I had nothing particular to add. With respect to your marrying under any circumstances before the expiration of one short year from your husbands death, I think it totally out of the question, nor could I on any consideration sanction so incorrect a proceeding. You consulted me about casting off your weeds (when at Weymouth) before the year end, which I disapproved of and think it is to be regretted that you have done so. When your sisters married their wardrobes were prepared under my roof and with my knowledge and approbation and when you require such wardrobe I will myself prepare it, but really the haste with which you proceed in your plans quite surprises me and as nothing can be decided until I know more, it is quite premature to speak on that subject. I write in great haste but beg to repeat my good wishes and am dear Katharine

Yr Affectionate Mother Sarah Ferrand

PS I do hope you and Mr Davies have thoroughly considered each others temper and ways and that your marriage (should it take place) will add to the future happiness of both of you.

Arms Generally notes for Sarah Ferrand
On the death of her brother Edward on 21 March 1837, she inherited the Ferrand estates and had to change her names and arms to do so.  This is reported by her son Johnson to have been done by Sign Manual, which these days is known as Royal Licence, and either have the sovereign’s signature, or initials, on the document.  Usually the College of Arms has a record of this and of the arms so taken.  But I have yet to even try to obtain this.  It might be that David Ferrand has the original.
Armorial Blazon notes for Sarah Ferrand
In is not yet known which Ferrand arms she used, that is whether she had the cinquefoil on the field in addition to the crosses vary on the chief.
