Notes for Sir Francis Barrington Bart
Imprisoned for opposing a forced loan in 1626.

Arthur Searle in his "Barrington Family Letters - 1628 - 1632" states:

"Sir Francis was 68 or 69 when he died in the summer of 1628.  Lady Joan was then apparently already 70 years old."

Boyd’s Deaths has found a record for 1628:
Fran Barrington at St Vedast Foster lane, London.  To follow up?
_______________

Feb 2019, TFPL: The printed transcription of St Vedast’s burials has:

Francis Barington was buried April 15th, 1628
and
Joand Barrington was buried May 3, 1628

No ‘Kt’ or ‘Bt”.  I don’t think it is him and certainly it is not her, as she lasted quite a few more years.  Back to Searle’s Letters book.

And in Betham's "Baronetage of England", 1801:

"I. FRANCIS, son and heir [to Sir Thomas and Winifred née Poole], served as knight of the shire for Essex in the parliament held at Westminster, 43 El;iz and on the accession of King james I to the English crown, was knighted at Theobalds, May 7 1603; and by the said prince advanced to the degree of baronet at the first institution of that dignity, 1611. ... From Mark Noble's "Memoirs of the persons and families who by females are allied to or descended from the protectorate-House of Cromwell" pub in 1784:

"Sir Francis represented the country of Essex in all the parliaments during the reign of king James I and the three first of king Charles I.  He was justly alarmed at the encroachments of the crown and with a boldness to be commended, refused to contribute to the loan in 1627, for which he suffered an imprisonment: happy for himself he died before his country was deluged in civil war..."
