Notes for Thomas Powys (of Abingdon)
Martin P-L writes:
Thomas of Abingdon / Abynton, Oxford, eldest son of WILLIAM.
We know not when he was born, since Ludlow registers only began in about 1560 (and did not give the names of fathers till 1575).
1560 married Joan Vicarie and had issue by her: Katherine, Ann, Thomas, John, Alice, Joan, Mary.
Another daughter, Margaret, is not mentioned in the Abingdon parish registers.
He rented from the borough a tenement with garden on the east side of Stert Street for 5/- p.a.
He was a secondary burgess. There were twelve principal burgesses who formed the council, and they co-opted sixteen secondary burgesses from "the better, honester and discreeter men" (Abingdon Charter of Incorporation 1576).
He was mentioned in his father's will.
1581 died. No will survives.
