Notes for Millicent or Eva Berkeley |
Smyth in his Lives of the Berkeleys, says that Maurice, lord Berkeley had only one daughter, Isabel who m. Robert de Clifford. Thus he denies that Maltravers wife was dau of Lord Berkeley. Indeed there is no mention of any such Eve or Millicent in the whole of Smyth's Volume I.
Nevertheless I have included her in the Berkeley files as everyone else believes her to have been a daughter of Maurice, lord Berkeley.
But on p. 251 of Vol 1, Smyth reports a charter of 13 Ed III to John Mautravers the nephew of Maurice Berkeley, who was the second son of Maurice, lord Berkeley. |
