Charlotte has a family tree for her on Ancestry which has been invaluable in finding publicly available source documents.  One day I hope to find out who the author was and to thank them.

However…

On the Adams/Heard/Pratt (Kinsale) Family Tree on Ancestry there are indeed the six children of Chalotte’s first marriage and five children for her second marriage.  The five children of her second marriage include one Edward Heaton Pratt who is said to have been born on 17 July 1898 at Kinsale.  This was a month before her second marriage, on 16th August 1898 and the author of the Family Tree says “Son, Edward was one month old at the time of his parents marriage!”.  This bit of salacious news adds to the credibility of the assertion about Edward.

Let’s consider the evidence:

1. There is no birth record for any Edward Pratt in Kinsale, Co Cork in 1898.
2. In the 1901 census, there is no sign of Edward Pratt who would by then have been 3 and surely with his parents.
3. In the 1911 census Charlotte, presumably, said that this marriage had had four children all of whom were alive.  I would have expected her to have included a child who was born one month before their marriage, but the four children can separately be accounted for by public records and of Edward there is no sign and no recognition that he was ever a member of this family.

My view is that the solution to this is that there is another Kinsale on this earth and it is in Virginia, USA.  Either Ancestry’s family tree generation system got confused between the two OR the compiler of the family tree did not do the checks I have done OR the compiler of the tree was trying to bolt on an unrelated family to these Pratts of Co Cork, Ireland who were also descendants of significant landowning families: Charlotte is descended from some Powyses of Shropshire who married a lady from a Littleton family and which Littletons have a fairly well documented descent from the illegitimate granddaughter of Henry IV, the first Lancastrian king of England and was, of course, of the Plantagenet royal dynasty.

I have no idea how the compiler came to allow this Edward Heaton Pratt to be included but the tragedy of Ancestry’s Family Tree system is that there is no way of adding a correction or a comment to an apparently false set of date.

Notes for Robert Wilkes & Charlotte Amyand Powys (Family)
From The Essex Newsman of Chelmsford on 23 June 1888:

“                      A FASHIONABLE WEDDING AT HARLOW

“A fashionable wedding, which excited great interest in the neighbourhood, took place at Harlow parish church on Wednesday morning, the contracting parties being Miss Charlotte Amyand Powys, elder daughter of Mr, Henry Atherton Adams, J.P., of Wynters, Harlow, and Mr Robert Wilkes Heard, eldest son of Mr. Robert Heard, J.P., of Pallastown, Kinsale, Co. Cork.

[rest of wedding report]

The above report means that the wedding occurred on 20th June 1888.

In the margin was this information: “Nicholas Cook originally shared this on 30 Sep 2015”, possibly he is the master-mind for this Family Tree on Ancestree.
