Notes for Roger Anthony Dickin
It seems that Roger Anthony Dickin was adopted, or at least that is what his father’s mother wrote in her will. His father refers to him only as ‘my son Roger Anthony Dickin’. And no evidence can be found for his birth, which is to be expected for an adoption.
This gives us enough public documents to declare that Roger was real.
In addition Roger named his father in his marriage certificate. So the relationship was recognised in both directions, up and down.
His father stated that Roger had a wife, Angela, and provided for her in his will if Roger predeceased him. So Angela must be found and any children found too.
At marriage on 21st May 1983 he was aged 24. So he was born between 22nd May 1958 and 21st May 1959. Inevitably, still no birth record of around 1958/9.

The interesting question is what I should do with Roger. This is a study of Powys Descendants. Is he one of those? Certainly an adopted child has rights over his parents’ estates. On the other hand there is no blood connection. What am I doing? The blood lines or the legal lines? I will give it some thought and see what I come up with.
4th Feb 2022, TFPL: The first thoughts have been to search the internet.
The first problem is that the answer varies from country to country, so there is no easy single answer. As this Powys study is the cause of this investigation and the overwhelming content lived in the British Isles, the easy decision is to restrict the answer to UK/British/English practice.
The clear UK law is that legally adopted children have the same rights of inheritance as biological children.
So the next question is clearly about lines of descent: Are they of blood only or of inheritance rights as well?
I am inclining to the view that:
(a) adopted children should be included and their descendants,
(b) the original adoption be shown by an adopted status, adopted flag and,
if possible, by a different line of descent (eg dashed instead of
continuous, or in a different colour).
