Notes for Brian Charles MacDermot
On the birth certificate for his son Alan David, this entry for him, Brian Charles, was included:

The death corresponds with a probate and the will for that probate has his wife and one known child mentioned within it. The problem is the other eight children included in the will. Where did they come from? Were they, or some of them, from an earlier marriage?
I think that answer to those questions is that there was but one mother for all nine children. The test is to get the certificate for the first as we know the last has Hunter for her mother. If the first is the same, then all are the same.

The birth certificate for Alan David, first born has arrived on 13th Jan 2022. It shows that Alan’s mother was Mary Arden MacDermot née Hunter. This is as anticipated. By the infamous principle of induction, now that the first and the last children are clearly identified as of Brian Charles and Mary Arden, née Hunter, MacDermot, all the intervening children must be the same.

His wife Mary Arden MacDermot was his executor so we are on the straight and narrow here.
His will will was signed on the 17th May 1984. He appointed his first and third eldest sons as executors. But if his wife survived him he appointed her as his sole executor and beneficiary. His net estate was £2307.
In his will he listed nine children! As follows, with other information as it has accumulated:
Birth on
Original FindMyPast Birth Birth
Name Executor (1924-1964) Year Place Mother
Alan David MacDermot Y Y 1946-50 Bierut, Lebanon Hunter
Mark Bernard MacDermot Y 1951-54 Berne, Switzerl’d -
Denis Benedict MacDermot Y Y 1951-54 Berne, Switzerl’d -
Dominic Charles MacDermot Y 1955-60 Rome, Italy -
Henry Simon MacDermot Y 1955-60 Rome, Italy -
Paul Hilary MacDermot Y 1961-65 Rome, Italy -
Francis Celestine MacDermot Y 1961-65 Oporto, Portugal -
Lucy Ann MacDermot Y 1961-65 Oporto, Portugal -
Jacinta Mary MacDermot Y 1966 Oporto, Portugal Hunter
It really does look this family moved round slowly and might all have had the one mother.
Note that when discovering each in FindMyPast, I entered only the first forename and just the initial for the second. It is remarkable that this list in a will should produce without any error these registrations around Europe and the Mediterranean.
If the first born had Hunter for his mother, then it is likely that the rest did as well. So I will order that birth certificate and see what it says. Done on 3 Jan 2022. Received on 13 Jan 2022; and Alan David indeed had his mother as Mary Arden MacDermot, née Hunter. QED.
