This census confirms, broadly, the BP information.
If she was born on 16 Dec 1877 she would have been three on 16 Dec 1880 and so her age in the above census, in March 1881, would have indeed been 3. So 1877 is my declaration of her birth year.
From the information of Robert B Rankin’s brother in law in the 1881 census, his wife Mary W Ranken was born Mary W Dunlop. So Janette’s parents were Robert Burt Ranken and Mary W Dunlop.
