Notes for Thomas Reaney
His surname had different spellings:
Year Event Spelling
1861 Census Reaney
1871 Census Reaney
1881 Census Rainey
1928 Death Reaney
1890 Lizzie Marr Rainey
His father’s census in 1851 also clearly uses the Reaney spelling as did Lizzie Jane for her maiden name in all the births of her children. So I have changed it to default to Reaney.

From the 1861 and 1871 censuses, Thomas got married between the two. From the date of the birth of their first child, it might have been in 1865.
This and his wife’s maiden name from their children’s birth registrations have enabled me to find a probable marriage in Warks.

A search on the birth registrations index for surnames of R*n?y and mother’s maiden name of Griffin produces this catalogue of children on FindMyPast:
Last name First name(s) Year Of Birth Location Mother’s maiden surname
Reaney Joseph Shadrach 1864 Penkridge, Staffordshire Griffin
Reaney Thomas A 1866 Penkridge, Staffordshire Griffin
Reaney William Henry 1868 Penkridge, Staffordshire Griffin
Reaney Lizzie Jane 1871 Penkridge, Staffordshire Griffin
Reaney George Ernest 1873 Penkridge, Staffordshire Griffin
Reaney Paul Ambrose 1874 Penkridge, Staffordshire Griffin
Reaney James Edward 1876 Penkridge, Staffordshire Griffin
Reaney Jerold 1879 Cannock, Staffordshire Griffin
Reaney Beatrice Rosannah 1881 Cannock, Staffordshire Griffin
Reaney Albert Frederick 1883 Cannock, Staffordshire Griffin
Reaney Maria Elsie 1886 Cannock, Staffordshire Griffin
However in the 1871 census there was a Rachael born to the family. I wonder if she became Lizzie Jane?
And did Thomas A reg in 1866 become Arthur T in 1871?
Plus Minnie Maud not found on Find My Past (v.odd), born in 1885. Founds on GRO and on FreeBMD. FindMYPast had her name transcribed as ‘Reamet’; this was due to their having a really rather poor image of that index page; FreeBMD has a much clearer image and the surname there is clearly Reaney.

I have put wildcards all round Thomas’ name, to accommodate any further variation of the spelling of his surname, but I still only get this one marriage. I still think it is a tad early and wonder what they were doing in Warks when both were born in Staffs.
