A marriage is on record for an ‘Audrey N Patterson’ in 1945 in Canterbury district to one Henry H Robinson.  Only by buying the marriage certificate could I be sure that I had found her belated marriage that could not have had any children after 1940 or so.

But an Audrey Nessie Robinson did die in Kent in 1986 with a reported birth date of 1892 so it looks like the marriage was hers as she was named as Nessie at birth.

_______________________

Her second forename, Nessie:

She was, above, born as Audrey Nessie,

In later censuses this changed once or twice to ’Nellie’.  This change could he either been deliberate or a misunderstanding by a transcriber of the dying use of the long ’s’ in writings.  I chose the former and altered her name in my file.

At the end of her life she was clearly using Nessie, notably in her will and then in probate.  So I have changed it back to her birth name.

The will arrived very speedily, a mere two days from ordering, and she included two longs lists of beneficiaries, many of whom were relatives. so I must compare this list with those whom I have found.

Her will was dated 29th October 1982 and had a codicil dated 19th October 1985. In it she appointed as executors:
1. Kenneth Martin Payne, her solicitor,
2. Giles Rooke of St Stephens Cottage Bridge near Canterbury

In the grant of 1986 Giles Rooks was defined to be His Honour Judge GILES HUGH ROOKE T.D. Q.C. of the same address.  He was, I have since discovered, her nephew by her sister Irene Phyllis’s second marriage to Charles Eustace Rooke.

In her will, it makes is clear that she was a Patterson by birth by leaving various items to the following Patterson relatives:

0. Her late husband Henry Hugh Robinson (which reveals his second forename),
1. V.P. Joy,          Vincent Peter Joy, her nephew by her sister Eleanor Muriel,
2. Iris Joy,          Iris Muriel Joy, her niece by the same,
3. R.H. Wightwick,    Richard Hugh Wightwick, her nephew by her sister Eleanor’s second marriage,
4. J.H.M. Borwick,    James Hugh Myles Borwick, her nephew by her sister Irene’s first marriage,
5. Mrs K.H. Ulyate,   Katharine Hilda Ulyate, her niece by the same,
6. Mrs D P Bergne     Dorothy Phyllis Bergne, her niece by her sister Irene’s first marriage,
7. Giles Rooke        Giles Hugh Rooke QC TD her nephew by her sister Irene’s second marriage,
8. Alexander Rooke    Alexander John Giles Rooke, son of Giles Hugh Rooke and so her gt-nephew,
9. Nicholas Rooke     Nicholas Anthony Hugh Rook, son of same and so her gt-nephew,
10. Elizabeth Rooke   Elizabeth Irene Ermyntrude Rooke, daughter of same sp her gt-niece,
11. Pamela Wells,     Pamela Margaret Wells, her niece by her sister Eleanor Muriel, in W.Australia,
12. Simon Tinley,     Simon P Tinley, her nephew by her sister Cecily Lucy,
13. Jeremy Tinley     Jeremy William Lee Tinley, her nephew by the same.

She left the residue her estate between her ten nephews and nieces, adding in Julia Tinley.  Dorothy Phyllis Bergne in her turn left £10,000 to the Rooke children and said this was derived from this bequest to her.

So I can enter up her marriage to Henry Hugh Robinson.

She used the same solicitor Kenneth Martin Payne as used by her husband in 1957.
