In 2002 she was on the electoral roll in some home at Holcombe Hse. Chagford Cross, Newton Abbot, Devon, TQ13 8PW and had been there for 2 years.

For any offspring, all I could find was a birth registration of a Virginia R Akroyd, with a mother’s maiden name of Studd, near Maidenhead around August 1946, and then nothing more about that name whatsoever..

Her will had led to some useful information, first being the name of her son in law and the names of her two daughters:
  David John Middleton Arnold,
  Nina Vivian Arnold,
  Virginia Lux Hemmings.

This led to discovering the index information for the marriage of the first two:

   Married in Q2 of 1963 in Maidenhead: David J M Arnold and Nina V Akrayd

Note the spelling recorded for the bride which is correct to the image of the index sheet.

This led to finding this birth:

  Birth in Q3 of 1941 of Vina V Akroyd in Eton district, Bucks with mother’s maiden name of Stadd.

This is worth investigating to see what was actually on the birth certificate.

The following index entries for birth registrations can be found:

  1.  Annabel Louise Arnold in Q2 of 1966 in Hampstead London, mother was Akroyd.
      So it sounds like she has married a beach
  2.  Fiona Deirdre Arnold in Q2 of 1969 in Luton, Beds, mother was Akroyd
      And she must have married a Cline.

The marriage of Virginia soon followed:

  Marriage in Q2 of 1971 of Virginia L Akroyd to Paul G Hemmings in Easthamptead Berks district.

Their children followed:

  Birth of Adrian Bayly G Hemmings in Q1 of 1975 in Torbay Devon with mother’s maiden name of Akroyd
  Birth of Julia Lux Hemmings in Q2 of 1977 in Torbay, Devon with mother’s maiden name of Akroyd.

I wonder if the registered Virginia R Akroyd later became Virginia L Akroyd?

The result of the above is that the two daughter seem fairly concretely registered as are their marriages and their children.  Problem solved!  (Aren’t wills lovely.)

In her will dated 16th September 1992, she was then of Hilltop, Coombe Meadow, Bovey Tracey, Devon and died at 4 Staddons View, Bovey Tracey, Devon TQ13 9HW, she appointed her son-in-law and a local solicitor to be her executors.  She left £469,459.

She listed in the will:
