Notes for Susanna Hullin De Gastine
Anthony he grandson reported of his grandfather: “. . . (he) took the degree of Master of Arts, was ordain 'd in 1728, and soon afterwards presented to the ectory of Heigham near Norwich his father's friend Dr Wake by great the then Archbishop of Canterbury. About the same time he went over to Holland and married at The Hague Marieanne de Gastine, daughter of the Major de Gastine, a French refugee in the Dutch service. By this lady who died soon after the birth of her second child, he had a daughter, Susan, who died very young, and a son, Anthony, my father, of whom hereafter.”

Susanna was first found as the mother in the reocrd of the baptism of her son Anthony.  I did not know where Susannah came from.

It is possible that Anthony the son had his mother’s first name wrong as she died when he was young.

In fact FindMyPast had a transcript of the marriage of his grandparents and she was de Gastine and Susanna.  So I don’t know where he got the Marieanne from for his grandmother.  And, of course, the marriage was not in Holland either.

There is a record for the burial of a Susannah Aufrere who was buried at St James, Piccadilly on 10 Dec 1731.  The original record can be obtained from the City of Westminster Archives Centre.

I am rapidly concluding that Anthony Aufrere who was born in 1757 is not a reliable source.  Everything must be checked up on and when in doubt, do not believe him.

And the above baptism record shows that Marianne was the forename of his gt-grandmother.
