I think this 1841 census has to be his family, the location name and ages of him and his son William are all in the right area; they were at: Pontesbury, Atcham, Shropshire:

This gives his mother forename as Margaret.  I wonder if the old Plimmers were her parents, or just a conflating of houses?  Definitely the latter from the enumerator’s sheet.  But in 1851 Elizabewth was down as “Mother”; it will be fun working out if she was mother and re-married or mother-in-law.

Armed with the above dates and birth locatgion a search for his baptism revealed nothing on either FindMyPast or FamilySearch.  Apparently the parish registers for Pontesbury are not in any public record office.

In 1861 Thomas and Margaret were both still in Pontesbury.  Curiously Thomas in this census gave Alberbury, Salop as his birth place.  Four children were still with them, three sons down the mines and one daughter still at school.

In 1871 Thomas and Margaret were still in their home as were three of their children plus one grand-daughter.  Thomas was still down as born in 1801 but Margaret was now said to be born in 1811.  Thomas had moved his birthplace to Westbury, Shropshire.
