One census record for David Puntan found in 1851 but two in 1861.
One was for a farmer’s son living on his father’s farm at Gorllwynfawr, Myddfai, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, Wales; he was reported to be 16 years old and thus born in 1845.. The other was for an apprentice bootmaker, which must be him, but not at his parents; he was reported to be 15 years old, thus born in 1846
The 1851 census was for the farming family.
Assuming the census birth dates were correct, this David’s birth record is the one for the younger of these two Davids, thus his mother was a Thomas. Short of purchasing a birth certificate, we have no knowledge as yet of his parents’ forenames.
But we can search for a marriage between a Puntan male and a Thomas female any time from 1837 to the late 1840s.
This marriage can be found on 3 June 1837 at Abergwill, Carmarthenshire between Thomas Puntan (as on the register image but transcribed as and Anne Thomas. Both signed with an X, hence the change in the spelling of Puntan.
The marriage for the other couple can be found in 1830: John Puntan amd Anne Williams on 3 Dec 1830 at Llangathen, Carmarthenshire.
