Notes for Dorothea Kirwan
She had (a younger brother? Nephew?) William J Sampson, b. 11 July 1919, staying with her in 1939.
_______________

However the above is a misunderstanding on my part.

I found some Churchill-Longman daughters who were clearly born in the Devon area, looked like hers but had a mother’s maiden name of Kirwan.  This contrasted with the fact that their father’s had married a Dorothea Sampson.  In fact, of course, she was born Dorothea Kirwan, had married Patrick Sampson and had a son William J Sampson and retained the Sampson surname until her second marriage to William Churchill-Longman.

So the two girls, Dorothea and Violet were indeed her daughters.

In her will she appointed a Kathleen Mary Patricia Pilkington as one of her executors, referring to her as a daughter.  No birth could be found with those forenames but a marriage was indeed found between Kathleen M P Sampson and John R Pilkington.  This may give me a lead to some of this Dorothea’s grandchildren.
