m. (1) Mariota Johnstone, (2) Margaret Ker, widow of Pringle of Whitebank.

He and Mariota had four sons and four daughters:

1. George, the successor laird.

2. Mr David Home of Godscroft, a historian, who had issue.

3. Mr James Home, parson of Hilton.

4. Mr John Home, a scholar, dying early apparently from overstudy.

The daughters:

1. Isobel m. Mr John Haldane of Gleneagles,

2. Margaret, m. David Home of the Law,

3. Julian, m. Sir John Ker of the Hirsel,

4. Janet, m. Wm Cockburn of Langton.


David also had a natural son, Patrick.

He was the first Laird who died in his bed, in 1574.
