Notes for Catherine St Leger
There is no sign of her in the 1861 census, not even when dearching for all Catherines, without surname, born in Bath in 1817-1821.

However this does seem to be her and two daughters in 1871; note that Alice was born in Isle of Wight in 1856:

From a record on the IoW FHS site, there is a birth of an unnamed Leighton, highly probably Caroline, in 1856, Ref R15/P26 and with the mother’s maiden name of St Leger.  So this has to be Catherine’s maiden name.

She also had a son Charles, recorded on the 1881 census and of age 26 and born in Ramsgate, kent, that is in 1854/5.  But no record of any birth registration can be found at all.

Notes for Francis Knyvett & Catherine (Family)
The only Francis Leighton marriage on FreeBMD between 1838 (start of records) and 1860 (caroline’s birth year):

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Marriages Jun 1851   (>99%)
Coates Frances Grantham 14 657

Leighton Francis Grantham 14 657
Ogden Thomas Grantham 14 657
ROUSE Caroline Grantham 14 657
Staniland James Grantham 14 657

Who was the wife, we wonder?

The 1881 census says she was Catherine, so I’m stuck!
