Death25 Nov 1959, 128 Rivermead Court, London S.W.6
Notes for May Waghorn
I wonder if either of these two births is her:
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Births Dec 1879 (>99%)
Waghorn May Lewisham 1d 1097
Births Jun 1885 (>99%)
Waghorn May Gertrude Malling 2a 595
The latter was the daughter of a farm worker, so doubtful.
And there is this unnamed birth in the new GRO index:
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
WAGHORN, - HOLMES
GRO Reference: 1885 S Quarter in MARYLEBONE Volume 01A Page 611
which does correspond with the following in the 1901 census.
And with her parents’ marriage in 1884.

I suspect this, birth place apart, but subsequent marriage place included, may be her 1901 census entry, making her about 24 at marriage:

I can’t find her in the 1911 census, either as Shephard or as Shepherd.

Might she have re-married:

The one to Wooton in Hampstead is attractive if her parents were (still?) living there.

No sign of her as May Shephard in 1911 census and born between 1870 and 1890. Possibly abroad?
Not found as Shephard in the 1939 register.

She is reported in Wikitree to have married William Reid Glover in 1936 in London, probably as above, and then to have died on 25 Nov 1959 at 128 Rivermead Court, Fulham, London. This death can be corroborated on the probate index for 1960. But the second marriage needs to be documented first. And William Reid Glover is on the probate index for 1959, having died on 25 Aug 1959.

Anthony Snook wrote in to me with this valuable extra information:
“May’s only daughter by her first marriage died in France aged 18. She married secondly William Reid Glover CMG DSO DL of London and Soal Farm, Petersfield, Hants. They had no children. He had a distinguished career in WW 1 commanding a battalion of the London Regiment, His only brother was killed by a sniper at Ypres in 1915. He was at Uppingham, owned Glover and Main, Master of the Haberdashers Company, a London DL, President of Rosslyn Park Rugby. He died in 1959 and May followed him three months later. His legacy including the adjoining farm, passed to his sister Inez’s only daughter Diana Sime née Stephens and on to her five children. I married one of the daughters.”
and
“Her brother was Cecil H. on your list.”
This clearly identifies where I was on the right and the wrong tracks.

Will notes for May Waghorn
Her probate index:
1960
Glover May of 128 Rivermead Court London S.W.6 and of Soal Farm Petersfield Hampshire widow died 25 November 1959 at 128 Rivermead Court Probate London 15 February to David Alistair Hope Sime accountant.
Effects £131822 12s. 3d.
Her will has been ordered on 16th November and delivered on 18 November. (But this was the will of one Liliam Campbell of 14 Trimblesdon Avenue, Booterstown, Blackrock, Co. Dublin.)
Her will was dated 10th April 1957 and she appointed as executors (a) her then husband William Reid Glover who in fact pre-deceased her and (b) David Simes who was, and was accepted by the registrars as, David Alistair Hope Sime.
In her will she split her estate into that inherited from her parents and grandparents and which whe called “my Waghorn property” and the rest of her estate which she called “my Own Property”.
She listed in her will:
Thw Waghorn property was to be held for her late brother’s, Cecil Holmes Waghorn, three children:
1. Her niece Anne Mitchell,
2. Her nephew Mark Waghorn,
3. Her niece Elizabeth Parker Waghorn,
and her Own Property was fpr:
4. Her husband in a life interest
5. Her godchild Joanna Moultrie for £100,
6. Her godchild Anne Waghorn for £100,
7. Her godchild Joy Barnard for £100,
She has a further clause in the own Property section in favour of “Elizabeth” who she defined as Elizabeth Parker Waghorn. I think the sections of her will that put stuff in trust were to deal with the problem of giving assets to children/adults before the age of 25.
She had nothing to say of any Stopford Sackville descendants. So I am taking this investigation no further.
